Preferred Bird was formally known as Preferred Exotic Bird Diets, which was founded by Ray Wallace in 1990. With much success Ray was able to take over Capitol Bird Supply, in April of 2009 during the restructuring of Preferred Exotic Bird Diets he was able to continue to sell Capitol’s mixes along with Preferred mixes. During the newfound success of selling bird food for small birds (Finch, Budgie, Parakeet, Canary, Sparrows, Songbirds, etc.) to medium birds (Cockatiel, Lovebird, Rainbow Lorikeet, Parrotlets, etc.) to medium-large birds (Dove, Ringneck Parakeet, Quaker Parrot, Senegal Parrot, Sun Conure, Green-Cheeked Conure, Amazon Parrot, etc.) to large birds (Parrots, African Grey Parrot, Eclectus Parrot, Umbrella Cockatoo, Yellow-Naped Amazon, Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, Hahn’s Macaw, Blue-and-Gold Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Hyacinth Macaw, etc.).
Brian Schweitzer met Ray in the early 2000s and became acquainted with the Bird Feed Supply business and was quickly intrigued. During the pandemic Brian was further interested seeing that Ray was still staying busy supplying most bird owners, bird enthusiasts and bird breeders in the Greater Sacramento and surrounding counties (Placer County, Sacramento County, Yolo County, Sonoma County, Monterey County, San Joaquin County, Napa County, Merced County, El Dorado County, Colusa County, San Francisco County, San Mateo County, Stanislaus County, Nevada County and Contra Costa County). Preferred Exotic Bird Diets had deliveries schedules to help supply Bird owners, Bird rescue facilities, Bird Feed Distributors, and Bird Stores; Preferred Bird looks to expand those delivery routes by reaching out to other Bird Breeders and Bird Stores in Southern California and surrounding counties (San Bernardino County, Los Angeles County, Kern County, Ventura County, Tehama County) along with expanding the Reno, Nevada & surrounding counties (Washoe County, Douglas County, Lyon County, Storey County and Carson City County).
